GEORGE Z. BIEN (1928-2005)

Bien Gyorgy Zoltan born in Hungary and emigrated to the United States in 1956 after taking part in the Hungarian uprising against the Soviet occupation. After World War II he and his father were taken to Siberian labor camps, where his father died.
George's original background was radio engineering and attended American University in Washington D.C.
In 1958 he started to work for Capitol Printing Ink Company from where he retired in 1992 as technical director.
During his employment he attended Montgomery College for 5 years at nights where he took plate making, photography and press fundamentals classes.
He was a permanent member of the ASTM* D-56 committee, where he wrote the standard for INKOMETER** operation. He also was on the steering committee of GATF. In 1990 he was awarded the PRINTING INK PIONEER AWARD.
He also was for 20 years a permanent instructor for the Washington Lithographic Union and at the summer courses at Lehigh University.***
In 1993 Flint Ink Corporation recalled him as a consultant to help to correlate the inkometers in the PUBLICATION dept. and to give INK and COLOR THEORY seminars.

Died in year 2005.
